The Eyes That Match Mine ----------------------------------------------- The next morning, my head was pounding. Between the shocking discovery in Snape's folder and that awful, creepy hissing in the walls I'm still hearing, I didn't slept a wink. I slowly walk into the Great Hall for breakfast, my feet dragging, and sit down at the Hufflepuff table next to Jackie. "Are you alright?" Jackie asks quietly, leaning over her toast. "You look like you've been dragged through a briar patch forwards and back." "I'm fine," I lie, my Southern drawl thick from exhaustion which I hate cause someone else is bound to hear it and I've been hiding since I started Hogwarts last year. "Just... my mind’s spinnin' like a top." I look over at the Gryffindor table. For the first time since finding that Ministry file, I look right at Harry. He's sitting with Ron and Hermione, laughing about who knows what now. I feel a weird, sort of painful squeeze in my chest. He doesn't know, I think. He has no idea he has a sister out there who speaks with a completely different voice that no one else hear. Suddenly, Harry turns his head and looks at me. It was like he could feel me staring. His emerald green eyes locked right onto mine. For a second, everything else in the Great Hall seems to completely fade out. He looks confused, his brows furrow as he stares back at me, as if he felt that weird sibling like 'pull' too but couldn't understand it. I panic, break eye contact, and look down at my plate quickly, my cheeks burning. "Maddie?" a soft, dreamy voice says from behind me. I turn around swiftly to see Luna. She was holding a plate of pumpkin tartlets and looking at me with those wide, pale blue eyes. "You have a very loud aura today," she says smoothly as always, sitting down next to me without being asked. "It looks like a thunderstorm. Are the Wrackspurts bothering you?" Despite how stressed I am, I can't help but smile. Luna just has this way of always making me feel safe without even trying. "No Wrackspurts, Luna. Just a lot on my mind." "Well," Luna says, handing me a tartlet. "My father says that when your mind is too busy, you should draw it out. Have you been sketching lately?" "I have," I say softly, looking at her very pretty face. My heart does a tiny, unexpected flip in my chest—a feeling that had absolutely nothing to do with Harry or the mystery folder. "Maybe... maybe you could come look at my sketchbook later? Just the two of us?" Luna beams, her smile radiates pure warmth. "I would love that, Maddie." As she walks back to the Ravenclaw table, I feel a little bit of the weight lift off of my shoulders. The mystery of why I was hidden away in the Muggle South was still there, but looking at Luna, I realized Hogwarts might not be so bad after all.
