I’m tired of social media. I make great characters that i really like and i feel like design wise are amazing and i get like 2 likes and 1 comment going “cool” Mainwhile i see millions of the same overly designed eye straining OC’s with 1850 likes and comments with like 3 negative comments. And I’m tired. I know I might offend some people but I’m done filtering everything so people will like me. Many OC’s suck. There are genuinely fantastic creators out there yes but many of them get no attention. Now I’m not going to call out names or accounts but I’m blaming this on the algorithm. They show people characters that are idmediatly stunning and cool even if there forgettable or confusing because it influences more interaction from the community burying creators like me. Now i know I’m not very active on scratch but thats becouse I’m on other platforms and my characters don’t do well on scratch. But i feel like it’s harming to new creators and especially creators who want to make a franchise show or movie one day. Becouse social media is basically telling them good characters are overly complicated and designed and has too many details.
so here’s a few tips i have for other creators. To make a good design that works if you really want a lot of details make sure they don’t fight with each other for attention and they all work together to convey the same thing. Look at Batman or Spider-Man or Alastor. There all strong recognizable designs many people love and look at how there made. There all either simple or mostly simple to read. Alastor is a bit more complicated the Spider-Man but he’s just as recognizable. Spider-Man is very simple yet very easy to recognize. Also usally try to keep 1 or 2 main visual details 3 is fine too. Like lets say me character Raze. His main vocal point is his head and he has a clean easy to read design. I’ll share an image of him you can tell me what you think of him and what you think his design portrays or says about him.
