She takes the word social butterfly to the extreme, talking and hanging out with everyone available. She’s always talking, whether it be to another cat or just to herself. She doesn’t appear to be someone with many cares in the world, just moving through life lightly and joyfully. Mem doesn’t hold any of her friendships above others, talks to whoever will listen and whoever won’t. On the outside she is indeed, very simple cat. Merriment is always looking to go further, to be stronger for her siblings, to be better thought of, to be a higher ranked cat. Her desperation to push farther is never ending, she is never satisfied by the winning of a fight, or a successful hunt. There’s ways more she wants. Guaranteed safety of her siblings. A high ranking position. They are successes for sure, just never enough. Merri has a thirst that is never quenched, a hunger that is never ending. She doesn’t know exactly what she wants though. Just knows she wants more than she has right now. It’s below the primary of her consciousness but Merri is scared all the time though, she’s scared that everyone around her hates her. That, in the end everyone will leave the way Widowwatcher did. A parent is supposed to be your rock, your constant, the thing that never changes. They are supposed to be the love that never wavers. But what about if the only way they talk to you is in your sleep? What about when their dead and only talk to you from the stars above? Though when she speaks to him, Widowwatcher seems like a kind and loving cat, but he also left them, whether he wanted to or not. She left Ferventkit with the burden of being the oldest, left Lanternfly as the youngest and with limited guidance. So Merri will be the tiger, the one who can protect her siblings when Fervent nurtures and Lantern is scared. She will anger and fear the cats that might someday abandon them. She won’t have any relationships that go deeper than her siblings. She’ll be the defender, the fighter, the one who holds them dear enough to keep them safer than their mother could. She’ll be quick to anger and quicker to fight, but that’s what it takes to keep herself and her siblings safe. Because good things never last, right? This constant paranoia leaves Merriment lonely. She has many friends, though they never feel the way friendships are supposed to feel. They feel like people she talks to, but she never truly tells them anything. ++
