I'm alot more than just an angry daughter. I'm kindhearted. Or at least I used to be. I swear it, I was. I'd scream it from the rooftops if I could. I'm kind, I'm kind. I'm kind. I am more than the cards I was dealt. I am more than my fathers anger and my mothers rage. I like soft things. Or at least I used to. I used to cry when I saw dead animals in the road. I used to carry spiders outside Because I couldn't bear the thought of something dying Simply because it had wandered into the wrong house. I used to believe that everything deserved a little bit of gentless. And I don't know when I stopped including myself in that. I was not born with my jaw clenched, My fists curled into little weapons. I was not mean. I was not born cold. Please, just believe me. I need someone to understand. I need you to understand that I was a little girl once Not a difficult daughter, Not an ungrateful child, Not just leftover pieces of the people who raised me. Just a little girl with scraped knees And a terrible habit of loving everything that she touched. I picked flowers for people who never asked for them. I apologized to my stuffies when they fell of my bed. I cried when somebody else cried, Even if I didn't know why. I don't know where my tenderness went, But there was a time I was full of it. I am a lot more than just an angry daughter, Just give me a chance, A single opportunity to prove it to you. Pull back my skin, Break my bones, Search every inch of me for that little girl whom I used to be. I know shes in there somewhere, I know because I still cry when I see old people eating alone, I still move worms off the sidewalk after it rains. I still feel guilty when I kill a bug. And I still remember the birthdays of people who no longer speak to me. There has to be something good left in me. Something that hasn't been hardened by the hands that raised me. And I know anger is an ugly thing. *I know it makes me difficult to love*. I know I have a terrible habit of showing my teeth When someone is only trying to hold my hand. But I was not born with sharp teeth. I was born with two hands that reached for everything. And I wonder if anyone remembers that Before I became someone people needed protecting from, I was someone who needed protecting too.
