hurricane || a starfishsaunter mourning srp Tw: blood, violence, grief Starfishsaunter stood near the sidelines of the arena. He wasn’t enthusiastic about watching his mate, and a cat he’d seen before and hunted alongside; fight. He stared blankly at the sandy area, beads of sand flying in the air between every attack. A lunge, a swipe, bared fangs, a tangle of fur and unsheathed claws. … Aris watched. And watched. A blank, emotionless stare on his face. He knew Nimbusnightmare was going to win. He hoped. Eventually, the two cats broke apart. Starry tensed momentarily. As both cats paused. … The ground had streaks of scarlet raggedly painted around. He watched with detached feeling. Then, something happened. The fighting cats stared at each other. Starfishsaunter couldn’t tell what each was feeling. Bloodlust, perhaps? Regret? Of the red that was now splattered across the ground. Or pain. … It happened in merely a heartbeat. Nimbusnightmare collapsed. Red painted her light fur. Starfishsaunter almost ran out to her. But then saw Squirrelstar. He couldn’t decode what the leader was feeling. Shock? Then, Codsplash collapsed. He heard the croak of her last words. An apology. … It happened at once. The explosion of rage and grief. A wildfire that tore through his mind. He sat still, trying to make sense of what had happened. Were they both dead? No, it couldn’t be. As he wanted to believe. He let out ragged breaths. Before raising his head to look at the arena. His mate, one of the only cats he knew he could trust. Lay limp on the arena floor. Denial. The horizon line. That separated the hurricane from the fire. That quenched the flames. No, Nimbus couldn’t be dead. He wouldn’t believe it. Starfish sat still, unblinking. A panicked, blank expression covering the rage and grief underneath. … Nimbus wasn’t dead. He made himself believe it. But soon. His denial fell away. Opening up an abyss that lay in his mind. Blankness, devoid of feeling. But the rage still tore through him Tides of grief washed over him. Who was he mad at? Not Nimbusnightmare. Codsplash? No Codsplash didn’t deserve the blame Then, the thought came to him. Squirrelstar. The leader. She was the one who opened the arena fight. This was her fault. Her fault Nim was dead. … He had assigned the blame. Directed the fury. But now. All that was left was the tide. He sat next to Nimbus’s body. At first, the blank mask stayed. As he stared in denial. Then came tears. He sobbed. Slowly, softly. Like he was. Slow and soft. Not violent. Not harsh. Not one craving bloodshed. He was him. Gentle and soft. And maybe that needed to change. … He looked at Nim's body. Wherever she was. StarClan The Dark Forest He hoped she was happy Not in a rude way He hoped with genuine feeling That she was happy Enjoying herself He would do his best To continue without her However He knew as a fact He would never forget Nimbus He would never forget her Even if Cats say It's better to forget a nightmare ...
(( note: last words aren't supposed to be an insult. 'nightmare' in to Starry, means Nimbusnightmare (her suffix, not Star referring the Nim as a nightmare), but to other cats it means a bad dream or something. )) cats mentioned: Nimbusnightmare - @12GACSE2 Codsplash - @Fallendrop Squirrelstar - @-c0nquest-
