Dissociative identity disorder (DID), previously known as multiple personality disorder (MPD), is a dissociative disorder characterized by the presence of at least two personality states or "alters". The diagnosis is controversial and remains disputed. Proponents of DID support the trauma model, viewing the disorder as an organic response to severe childhood trauma. Critics of the trauma model support the sociogenic model of DID as a societal construct and learned behavior used to express distress. (...To dumb it down: When someone has extensive trauma, likely from something in their childhood years, and they physically couldn't escape; the person would escape into their mind instead, [and during the young age, children's personalities aren't fully developed] so basically their one personality rips apart into multiple, some of them taking on the trauma, while others are oblivious. [the levels of amnesia and memory gaps can vary, not all people with DID have the same symptoms])
hello everybody, hope you're doing well <3
