name idea by @-Stellaura- !!!!! go follow her now 1. Art trade with Vi3O on deviantart (42 layers) 2. Art trade with Slowboats on deviantart (62 layers) ART TRADES ARE CLOSED BTW! DO NOT ASK FOR A PING CUZ I WILL FORGET! going into detail a bit about how i drew these (I feel bad for not doing much for SDAS): for both of these characters I started with a sketch similar to the color of the character, it makes it easier to color I think, so I used red for the first sketch and blue for the second (also important because I never actually delete my sketch layer) then I set the sketch layer blending mode to multiply, and add flat colors (BEFORE lineart) I color by filling in the entire canvas and erasing the excessive parts with an eraser or the lasso select tool on procreate! (both work equally as well) Then I do lineart with a black inking brush on top of everything, I use a modified version of Baskerville on procreate but any solid brush should work! (sometimes I use the default flat brush too) After that, I turn down the opacity of the sketch to around 20% and color the lineart with a darker, more saturated version of the base color it's around I add another layer above the sketch but below the lineart to clean up any ugly parts of the sketch So basically rn the order of layers is lineart (top) -> fixing colors -> sketch -> flat colors (bottom) THIS IS ONLY HOW I DO IT DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU NEED TO DO IT THE SAME WAY!! my process is probably more complicated than necessary :,) For rendering, I usually first start with a multiply layer of a desaturated color over the entire canvas and erase the parts light will hit After that I do some magic and render the eyes for the last part of shading, I add more multiply, overlay, add, color burn, color dodge, hue, luminosity and saturation layers to make it look better (I'll make a better tutorial on rendering later) Finally I use my Baskerville brush to paint some extra fur and clean up other mistakes I also like going into greyscale to check if the values (how light or dark a color is) make sense (I do this a lot, I draw in greyscale like half the time :p) I do the background (for boat, I did it before drawing the character because it was actually a scene that got completely hidden by the character TwT) and add an outline manually, I feel like it looks more natural when I draw it by hand (only did this for 1) I add a bunch of gaussian blur and sharpen effects and finally, this is something I started doing recently, I downloaded a watercolor paper texture to slap on top of the drawing it gives it more texture lol That's all! I hope this was helpful ;w; even if you aren't my mentee, if you have a question please feel free to ask! credits: characters belong to those people above ^^ music is summer by joe hisaishi u guys finally get a break from the Mario kart music! typing this as I'm listening to hyrule circuit btw :DD
