Hurricane Milton rapidly grew into a massive and powerful storm over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico before hitting the west coast of Florida near Siesta Key in October 2024. As it slammed into the state as a Category 3 hurricane, it brought dangerous wind gusts, huge ocean waves, and flooding storm surges to coastal communities. Rain poured down across central Florida, causing serious flooding in cities like Tampa, while dozens of severe tornadoes ripped through neighborhoods ahead of the main storm. Power went out for millions of people and homes were heavily damaged before Milton finally moved out into the Atlantic Ocean
