/ what's a way to just be competent? / (part 2 of https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1385663884/) - ----------------------------------------------------- - Incompetence… Shadowclan truly was incompetent. It had been two moons since he’d noticed Serenity was missing, and still, even after requesting a search party, no word of her had surfaced! Weaselstar wasn’t taking this seriously, was he? Because if he was… Cobaltmyth was certain they would have found her by now! Serenity, his darling… she had to still be out there… she couldn’t be dead. Despite the glances from his clanmates, those fleeting looks as if they harbored secrets he did not know… as if they were certain of her demise… she couldn’t be gone because just earlier today, he had a dream in which he awoke to find her returned. BUT IT WAS A DREAM?! Why did it have to be merely an illusion? He wished this were a dream… a terrible dream… but at least he knew he would wake from it… at least he would know it wasn’t real. BUT IT WASN’T A DREAM! This isn’t a dream… it could never be a dream that Serenity was missing… that Serenity was gone… that Serenity was… absent from his life. He could hardly recall the last time he heard her laugh… the last time he saw her smiling face… the last time she’d spoken to him. Stepping out of the warrior den, he trudged past the camp's clearing… past Weaselstar’s den… past ShadowClan and into the wilderness! As far away as his weary legs could carry him. Sleep had become a fickle companion since her disappearance… he was forever tired… a burden on Shadowclan… but Shadowclan was a burden on him! BECAUSE they hadn’t found his daughter… He was the best of the best in his clan, a seasoned warrior… but being the best wasn’t enough when he needed to be number one if he wished to find Serenity! He NEEDED to be greater… for once in his life, being the BEST wasn’t going to suffice, because just because you’re the best doesn’t mean you wield power. EVERYONE in Shadowclan was incompetent, and it seemed they wielded more power than he, be it Sulfuroblivion, who’d been granted the rank of medic as if it were trivial… and she hadn’t been able to find Serenity! NOBODY had been able to find Serenity… and yes, he burdened himself with blame, but it was easier to lay the fault on the rest of the clan… it was simpler to seek the truth in others because they were all “INCOMPETENT.” He needed to escape this place… if he was to find Serenity… Then he could no longer be incompetent… As he made his way back toward camp, he understood what he must do… he… couldn’t remain here, languishing in… . . . /INCOMPETENCE/ - ----------------------------------------------------- - credits - Imposter syndrome by Sidney Gish Mentions Sulfuroblivion, Serenity(paw?), & Weaselstar
