Made this for a school halloween competition, now its a part of my short stories. Story: Once again, I am faced with that nightmare. I’m locked into the bed, all alone, surrounded by an endless abyss instead of my room. In front of me, in the middle of all of that darkness, would be a beast. A gigantic dark thing, towering above my bed, beyond what seemed to be the ceiling itself. Everytime, it slowly crawls or slides towards me, its limbs reaching out. It rumbles and hisses as its approaches, every second a violent, rapid beating and pulsing from my heart throughout the veins and vessels. I try to run, try to scream. I say I must, I must- but I cannot. My body refuses to even budge as if I was encased with a thick icy coffin, and my mouth does not open- as if I never even had a mouth at all. I could only witness, surrendered completely as this scene unfolds. The thing’s limbs lunge at me along with its form, clutching my entire body in its gargantuan claw. I continue to struggle against my own form. It tightens its hold with overwhelming force, a multitude of chains binding me. My eyelids stretch in terror, the accumulated shrieks and flinging arms and legs locked inside my soul clawing, and pushing- begging to be let out. The beast continues to hold. More and more limbs surround me and slithering and flinging towards me. They morph, they multiply. They continue to crush and constrict my form, forcing me deeper and deeper into what feels like death’s door- strangling everything and all that is me. As if living, clawing black threads were wrapping around my jugular. What remains of my vision now throughout the black sea drowning all is but a sliver. The creature’s head twists toward mine, it growls. Its maw, before a faint line, tears open violently- billions of teeth erupt and endlessly stretch throughout the void that is the creature's throat. I feel its breath. It’s so cold and revolting, yet heated, filled with a relentless hunger and ferociousness. My eyelids stretch further, my soul continuing to shriek and scream and yell for my life. Fear and panic encompasses me completely. I wanted to run, I wanted to run, I wanted to run, I screamed and screamed, again and again. I didn't give a single thought of what being or creature or whatever it was that was attacking me anymore, I couldn't even see anything at all. All was darkness and shrieks and terror and fear and panic and pain and screams for help from the inside- Yet, nobody came. And in the midst of this agonising pandemonium- the beast roars and lunges forward. (continue reading in the notes)
Then, I’ll wake up screaming. In a cold, icy sweat at midnight. A faint yet lasting pain grabs me across my body as I breathe heavily. What feels like a ruptured heart pounds with a forceful, aching flow of blood. I sprint and grab the doorknob, slamming the door open and rushing to my parents’ room. I scream, rousing them from their sleep. ‘Mom- dad!’ My father grumbled weakly. ‘...What? It the monster again?’ ‘Y-yes… It never goes away. W-why won’t you believe me? You never do.’ I stuttered. My mother sighs. ‘Sweetie… It's just a nightmare. We’ve took you to the doctors’ multiple times already and you’re fine. Now go back to sleep- dad’s got work tomorrow, alright? Remember that it's all okay…’ I paused, despaired and hopeless. ‘...Alright.’ I sighed once more as I stumbled back, my head hanging low. One by one, as my bare feet stepped onto the floor, I began to contemplate. No matter who I told, my friends, my classmates, and my teachers- They just call me ‘crazy.’ They tell me to ‘stop joking’, and other similar phrases. However, I can see why one would say that. If one walks up to you, all anxious, and says their nightmare was in fact real, you’d probably say the same. Some, however, were concerned for me, but their thoughts on reality were the same as the others. Yet, the pain, experience, all of it is real. I can see them, touch them, feel them as if it was a texture. They’re clear, they pierce me with a blinding, blatant certainty, even though I am not certain myself. I don’t I can tell if these are simply dreams anymore. If this continues, even my basic grip on reality will slip- I’ll not be able to differentiate these so-called ‘hallucinations’ from reality for anything at all. Are these just sick illusions my mind conjured… Or is it really real, somehow? I ask these questions again and again and again. At this stage, it's not just the monster and these nightmares tormenting me, it is my very mind. It gnaws at my consciousness, it strangles my temples. ‘You know what? It's useless.’ I thought. ‘It's fake anyways like the doctor said, and I’m tired of this.’ I sighed once again, shaking my head with annoyance. ‘Yeah… Yeah. I should just sleep.’ Slowly, an odd sense of relief washes over me. And so, I continued to walk out, and headed towards my room. ‘Wait.’ There’s something that doesn’t feel- good. My spine trembles with a crawling fear on my back. Cold and unease is festering, spreading throughout my form. I turned my sight to the hallway, now consumed by something colour darker than dark- an abyss. The void that appears before me calls, grasping my being in its hands. I feel- no, see something sharp, akin to a knife, yet organic and amorphous. It is piercing me throughout the shadows I am absorbed in. I stared at the abyss. The abyss stared back. End. For those who actually managed to read all the way here, thank you! Also I actually wanted to paste it into the project itself, uh yeah whatever.
