Apologies beforehand for awful editing. So one of my MCs in the book I’m writing is male, yes? Well I think I’ll make him a female character instead just because it would make for a lot better and more original of a story. That leads to my problem though… So most people I know irl who will be my beta readers are unfortunately, most likely homophobic due to their religions. The original version of my book where the character is male, I have a gay romance that is hidden through the lense of “platonic” but then there’s also another girl character tying together a canon polyamory well hidden, but obviously in subtext. So what’s the problem with the character being a girl if it would be straight then? I’m still platonic hiding it, but my problem is the third member of the polycule. The girl. Now that there’s lesbians I would have to hide that since I most desperately do not any my friends to disown me. I wrote so many good romance seems between the mc and girl though. Like they literally kiss and the mc gives her roses after winning a competition. But now that mc is a girl. And she’s doing that exact thing. And it’s such a wonderful lesbian relationship then. But it’s so obvious. Nothing is subtle. And I could try to somehow friendship hide this again with my book world’s “comraderie kiss” Or I make the girl character also a boy. But wait, before she was dating a male character who is also the mcs best friend therefore ruining the point of a mostly platonic male and female relationship. :/ Or final option. I just leave the mc a guy. The disappointing option. Anyway I need help either way. And don’t just say “do it anyway. Have the canon obvious lesbians” I cannot, no matter how much I’d like.
