The National Union wants the rest of historical Québec and acadia, with a slither of Ontario, due to current or historical presence of Québecois & Acadian populations. The government argues that beyond nationalist reasons, the added land could help the reconstruction and reindustrialization of Québec into a modern state. The retaking of Montreal would be a particularly great aide to the reconstruction effort due to the city's industrial base. Québec is willing to negotiate to gain the land.
