Olivia rolled the shopping cart down the street, back down to the house. It was full of cans and water, which would make their food supply even bigger. Annie was walking nearby, her crossbow at the ready, an arrow loaded. She was on a vigilant search, constantly looking into the dark corners of the slowly darkening street. The wheels were rattling unnaturally loudly, and Olivia was worried the noise might attract more creatures. But, thankfully, there were none. At last, Olivia turned the corner, wheeling the cart towards the house, kicking pebbles in front of her. She pulled the cart in through the door, Annie close behind her, closing the door behind her. As she dragged the cart through the carpet into the kitchen, something felt wrong. It became apparent when she entered the kitchen and saw the cans of food scattered all across the floor. “Annie, get in here.” Olivia whispered-yelled. Annie came in and gasped when she saw the damage. “Do you think… one of them is in here?” She whispered. Olivia nodded and slowly walked into the main living room. Empty. She crept up the stairs, cringing at every creak. As she reached the top, her ears registered the sound of something shuffling in the next room. She reapplied her grip on the crowbar and slowly shifted toward the hallway. One of the doors was wide open, and she could see movement from inside. Olivia took a deep breath, then rushed inside, yelling, and swung. She couldn't stop before her crowbar thunked loudly onto a person's head.
