(ps I know its very rushed on the middle. i needed 2 include a bunch of stuff and only had 1 day) the worst day of my life by anoymous/froog_pwr Today is going to be the best day of my life. Or maybe the second best, who knows. I search through the hotel closet. Which shirt should I wear? Pastel yellow or dark pink? “Masie! It’s time to go now!” My mom yells, sharp but kind. I loudly respond, “But I’m not ready!” My mom yells back to me, sharper and with a drop of anger this time, “Nope, we are going NOW, I’ve been telling you for twenty minutes!” I rush to get the pastel yellow shirt on. Hopefully it looks good! I sprint out the door where my mom is waiting, but I don’t look at her. I look behind her out the window in the hallway. Wow, three days in Paris and I still can’t get over how amazing and huge it is! There are so many cool things here! Huge, never-ending shops, rich, flaky croissants, and cool hidden pathways to explo- “Honey, stop getting distracted or we are going to be late. I'm really sorry to make you rush, but you should have been done by now. I have made a tight schedule to make sure we can do every single thing you want.” My mom tiredly says to me. We rush as fast as we can even though the steps we are on are very narrow and hard to walk on. They also make an ear-splintering creaking sound. As we go down I think about something that's the opposite of these narrow, crooked stairs. The Eiffel Tower. I really wanted to go, but my mom said we didn’t have the time. But that's also basically my dream. I guess I will have to wait until I'm older to go. But what if by the time we can go, the Eiffel Tower will, I don't know, disappear? Well I better stop thinking about this because we are still late! Finally we get downstairs into the big, open space. Looking at the wall clock and seeing that we are not late, my mom is back to her normal attitude, “Ready to go?” I joyfully respond, seeing that she’s not mad at me anymore, “Yep, let’s go!” We open the dark green door and walk outside to adventure into the big maze that people call Paris. As we walk to our rental car, I was getting more excited by the minute. I wonder what we are going to do today. As I skip to the car my excitement fades slightly. When we got this car, it had this absolutely disgusting school gym locker smell and we didn't figure out until yesterday that the last people or maybe even the last last people left some food in the car. Well, it’s fine. Just a small price to pay for being in Paris. “Hey mom?” I ask. My mom replies, “What is it honey?” “Where are we going? And please don’t tell me that we are going to another museum. They are pretty cool, but we have been to like 20,000 of them,” I say “You will just have to wait and see for yourself,” My mom slyly says. Aw man, why does she always have to do that. I pivot away from her and look out the window. It is just a bunch and moving colors basically. But then suddenly the colors aren't moving any more. I turn to look at my mom but halfway into doing that, I see it. The Eiffel Tower. I feel like I can barely speak, but I somehow say something, “How… when… where… what?” “Let me sum it up for you. We are going to be at the Eiffel Tower in an hour,” My mom happily says. I respond, less surprised, “But you… you said that we couldn't go.” “Well… I found time, so… surprise!” My mom says excitedly. My mom parks the car and we stroll outside. Then we walk across the street and go inside this bright, colorful coffee shop. We get these semi-sweet, flavorful iced coffees that I can't say the name of because it is in french. We are about to leave but then sadly I have to use the restroom, so I tell my mom and walk away. As I'm walking away my mom says that she will wait in our smelly car for me. After I use the restroom I walk to the car… but nobody's in it. I turn left and right and there is no sign of my mom. I strolled around for about 20 minutes. Still nowhere to be found. After the 30 minute mark, I start to panic… a lot. I have never been alone by myself before. My mom still doesn’t trust me to be home alone for 5 minutes because of that one time where I forgot to add water to my cup noodles. It did not go well. I try to be calm as I wander a bit farther than before.
CONTINUING FROM INSTRUCTIONS “Are you lost?” Says a girl about my age. I nervously respond, panicking about my mom and this random person talking to me, “Um… yes?” “Well nice to meet you, my name is Thea, what's yours?” Thea asks. “Um… well… my name is Masie… and I’m trying to find my mom, and she said she would be in our car, but she isn’t in there,” I quietly say. I show her to our car, and after a long moment of silence she breaks it, “Well since she is definitely not in here, where else could she be?” “Bad news, the only other place I can think of is the Eiffel Tower, and even though I'm positive of its walking distance, I don't actually know how to get there.” “Don’t worry, I can show you the way! I’ve been there at least 30 times.” I gasp, “Actually? You can do that for someone you met 5 minutes ago?” “I would help you nonetheless, but in reality I have been bored out of my mind all day because I ran out of stuff to do.” Laughs Thea. She leads me to the sidewalk and then we walk in silence. But after about 20 seconds she starts talking and we get a conversation going. We both find out we have a lot in common. We both like books, strange food combos, and a bunch more. We must talk for a long time because soon enough we are only a road away. And then… I see her. Driving around. Like less than a block away. “Thea! Look! That’s my mom over there!” I say excitedly in relief Thea happily says, “Yay! But we better hurry because I think she's driving away!” We turn around and start speed-walking back. I thought I was never going to see my mom again! I wonder why she wasn’t in the car when she said she would be. Oh well, I will just ask her later. I’m also going to miss Thea, she’s been so cool and nice. Maybe we could exchange phone numbers. “Hey Thea, do you think before I go to my-” I begin to say but then I suddenly get pulled back and fall down. Ow. That hurt. I look around and then look at Thea. She has this scared and shocked look on her face like she just witnessed something crazy. She is just staring at the road. I stand up and am about to ask what she was so shocked about when she hugs me. Now I am the shocked one because even though now I think we are friends, I still met her an hour ago. “What is it?” I ask, my question muffled by her hugging. She bursts away from the hug, “I am going to be totally serious right now. You almost got hit by a car. Some random person just yanked you back at the last second and then left.” Ok. Well now I am the scared one too. I stay silent and just grab her hand to keep walking to my mom. After a while, we finally catch up to my mom at one of the cool alley’s I wanted to explore when we first got here.. I hug her so tight. I exchange numbers with my new friend who has just saved my life and then me and my mom go back to our hotel. Back at the hotel, I ask my mom a very important question, “Why weren't you in the car? I specifically remember you telling me you were going to wait in our smelly car?" “Because I didn’t say smelly car, I said smelly booth!” My mom insists. Now I realize that I just made a huge mistake. A huge one. I quickly apologize. “Mom, I am so sorry. I kept on not paying attention to you and taking it for granted. That reminds me. I almost got hit by a car.” I apologize. At that my mom looks like she's about to faint. I quickly say something, “But don’t worry, this random dude saved me. I mean, you know that because I’m right here, alive and well.” After hearing that story, my mom sends me to bed. I start brushing my teeth with my vibrant purple toothbrush and I put on my bright colored pikachu pajamas. Today was a disaster. A total disaster. Maybe even the worst day of my whole life. Maybe I should try to be less reckless. And maybe try not to get mad at my mom often. As I drift off to sleep in my partially comfy bed, I think about how this day could have gone. Maybe it could have been the best day in my life.
