This is my entry for Graveyard!! I was super excited to see all the designs and had cool ideas for all three, but Graveyard was the one that caught my attention the most. I was originally planning to do a scene but I didn't really plan ahead so when I tried to think of a background I couldn't figure anything out. So I might do a scene later if I have time or maybe theme songs because I love finding theme songs for characters. —————————————————————————— Click(on the cat) or press space to advance 1 - My sketch! 2 - then I did the lineart and also switched the tail up 3 - added flat colors and cleaned up the lineart a bit 4 - added ghosts and colored the lineart 5 - added the accessories 6 - shading! Also I forgot the bell initially so I added that. I was really pleased with and proud of the final product although I do think my shading looks a little off. 7 - thumbnail —————————————————————————— Changes From the original design to my entry I made a few changes! First, the most obvious ones are the ghosts having more flowy/wispy bodies and pupils and the accessories on the staff. To be honest I just thought the wispy bodies and staff accessories looked really cool that way when I doing concept doodles in my sketchbook. The pupils seen in this drawing have a in-lore reason, which I'll go over later! Also I realize that the ghost behind him is way too small! That was my own error and by the time I noticed it was too late to fix it. I promise that ghost isn't actually that small Next, I did some changes with the cat himself. I changed his body type to be more smooth, skinny and a little stretched to give him an erie sense of being not quite right. —————————————————————————— Lore of the world The world that he lives in mirrors our own, except for the complete absence of humans. There are remnants of human civilization, but our time in that universe has long since passed. Taking our place is a society of intelligent (and oftentimes supernatural) animals. The animals of this world, which is known as Htrae, have thumbs which allow them to build and craft as we would. They currently live in an early modern era devoid of electronic technology but still with the same ideas of the enlightenment and scientific revolution. As for the supernatural aspect, many animals are born with an oddity, such as the ability to levitate items or with enhanced senses. Most don't have strong or powerful abilities, while some don't have any at all. They don't know for certain where the oddities come from. Some say it's inherited through family, some say it's given by a god or deity and others claim it's pure luck. While many believe in lots of different deities, there are two that are known to exist for certain. Death and Life. Life is reason the world exists, they created it out of nothing and continue to always create and give each creature their spark of life. Death is the reason life ends, as all things must end eventually. Death keeps populations in check and reminds the creatures to cherish their time. They also keep track of souls and occasionally allows Life to reuse one. Ghosts! Ghosts exist in this world, although only a select few can see them during the majority of the year. There is one day, however, when Ghosts become visible and understandable to all. And that is October 31st, the day that the Blood moon rises. This is the only day each year when Life and Death meet, which causes traditional lines between the two separate realms to blur and overlap. It's treated as a holiday, but most animals are also cautious and keep a low profile because it's an unpredictable and highly supernatural time when anything can happen. I think that's everything! (Character lore coming soon! I might put it in a separate project or maybe move the world lore to a separate project to open up more space) Edit: character lore has arrived!
