Project 68 was launched by the Weapons Development Group's Unit 616, the covert biological and chemical weapons development unit. With the Empire's creation of the new seapeople, the need to produce such a weapon would grow, as a way to force the empire from every potentially invading the nation, and to "encourage" them not to attack or in any way harm the Republic's allies. The "Gill" Plague, is a superweapon designed to target specifically the sea people's Gills, this aquatic fungus, would be designed to aggressively bind tissue in the gills. It would cause rapid inflammation, and suffocation of the sea people in their own environment. So far, the effects of the plague are permenanet, but less dangerous versions of the plague are to be designed in the future. Transport of the Plague would be through stealth drones the Navy already uses. These ships would fly near aquatic population centers, and release the plague quickly before retreating. Eventually, it would reach the Aquatic homes, and would do it's magic, killing off many seapeople. This Project, and the Weapon, is top-secret, the Republic plans to release the information of such a thing in the future, to surprise the Empire, and discourge any superaggressive actions against the State.
