This isn't my mentee, but she requested this critique, so of course I was happy to help!! Critique Notes-- 1. Overall I can say that this is very good art! It does want for some modifications, however - the project will explain that. I promise I'm not biased just because we're friends, I was completely and thoroughly honest in my thoughts if this piece :3 2. I like how the chest floof goes up, but it shouldn't flow entirely up - fur flows mostly down and back, so keep that in mind in your work! 3. There's a few problems with your flow and focal point. The tail is long and is held high in a fashion no cat will ever maintain sitting down - the tail is a limb, after all! Imagine having a tail yourself, and holding a casual position like that for so long - doesn't sound fun, does it? This tail position affects your flow - I understand if your idea of a focal point was the whole character; however, there are still things the art should center around, most particularly the face. I explain more in the project. 4. As for your shading, I love it! you for the most part show an understanding of how light falls, although I would refrain from shading under the stripes in the future! I do love how you add a lot of light to the tail - it shows that it is farther back, behind the character, and it draws the eyes back to the face nicely! 5. I really like the colors you chose for the background - they're nice and complementary and I love what you did with the sky! The grass also looks awesome, however, I do have some thoughts about it that I explain in the project.
