So, you may have seen a new little story floating around Scratch for a bit called Revival, an Inanimate Insanity AU. I never really have gone into detail about it, and there's a good reason why I haven't. Whenever I come up with a new story, especially one that isn't entirely original (Take Fathom Depths for example) it's never received well by the internet. Revival is not new at all, it's almost 2 years old. I created it at the beginning of 2025. But I'm keeping it private to basically protect myself. The Revival AU just basically creates the characters into my own visions, completely rewriting them while creating a whole new role with it's own lore for them. Mephone, for example, is described as sweet, caring, openly emotional and vulnerable. Definitely not the character he is in the original media, and he isn't meant to be. Not only personalities are swapped or changed. Voices, backstories, designs, race-coding, orientations, genders, or gender identities might be changed. Moral alignment may be changed. Names are changed too, and the object names the characters have are their "stage names," excluding the drones. For example, Nickel's real name is Nicholas Change. Example of a Personality Change: Mephone. He's described as a drone who's fascinated with humans and is very caring and loving but can be sarcastic at times, and would never intentionally mistreat a contestant. In canon, he loves to boast and tests his contestant's limits all the time. Example of a Backstory Change: Basically everyone! They had lives prior to the show, which defeats the purpose of the original show. Example of a Race-coding Change: Yin and Yang are canonically Chinese coded, but in Revival they are Haitian and are adopted by a a Chinese-Canadian family. In addition, most of the drones in IIR are black-coded, including my OCs (people really don't like black OCs and it sucks. I'm sorry but if people react like that to fanart of GARNET from SU, a canonically black character, then...) Orientation change example: In Revival, Nickel is gay. I'm not sure of his canon identity. Gender change example 1: In canon, Springy is a boy (I think?) but in canon, Springy is gender apathetic/pangender and uses all/all pronouns. Gender change example 2: In Revival, Microphone is Non-binary and uses she/they pronouns, while I think canonically he is trans male and uses he/him pronouns. People are usually very toxic when it comes to changing characters like this for an AU or rewrite. And it sucks. I'm not the first person to do this, I see plenty of AUs out there, yet people are so mean and nasty when I do it and it sucks. Another reason I don't share Revival is that this is the least toxic platform I have to share my art, but sadly, Revival is for adult audiences so there's very little I can share. It has swearing, and violence... and very adult issues. Lastly, I want to talk about how people handled Fathom Depths. It wasn't great. It wasn't the best story and I certainly could've done better (I have wicked good ideas for a rewrite...) but really? Was the harassment I received offsite for it necessary?? Just because I portrayed the characters in a way people didn't agree with... and that's when I was ACTUALLY trying to make them canon!! IIR is trying to stray as far from canon on PURPOSE and that's what scares me. Picking on Bones and calling him a "manchild" was so unnecessary lol. In fact, I make fun of that in the little snippets I write. Can you tell I'm mad? This is why I go to therapy. The internet really just... actually traumatized me. Really badly.
