[Chapter 2 - Shelly] “DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?! OR IS YOUR MASSIVE EGO BLINDING YOU FROM THE OBVIOUS TRUTH. NO ONE ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT YOU.” The punch landed harder than either Toon had expected. Shelly’s arm flew backwards from the impact, and Vee’s face began to crack violently, until small shards of glass fell out and onto the shop counter. Her right eye was just gone, screen unable to properly project it, screaming colours of static. The TV, still dazed, didn’t register what had happened, until she detected a wound on her hand from the glass. Never in her 3 years of being the Star, had someone down right attacked her before. The audacity? If anyone, she would have expected it to be Shrimpo. But Shelly? Vee just stared at her own broken face in the reflection of the glass, and said absolutely nothing. Goob had to pin Shelly’s arms behind her, who was lurching forward like she was about to bite. Vee remained silent, which threw Shelly off. Her singular pupil went wide like a cat about to pounce, and crossed her hands over the countertop. It was floor 26. Vee could easily refuse to sell any healing items. Yet she pushed an unwrapped bandage into Shelly’s hand and smiled. “Take it,” she began, deadly soft, “your knuckle’s bleeding” Shelly didn’t hesitate to snatch it, still slightly bewildered by Vee’s attitude, but said nothing. Just before she peeled off the backing, Vee grabbed her by the bandanna, tugging her forward, chest slamming into the temporary elevator shop, until she choked and gasped for air. Goob let go midway, falling flat on his face as Vee lifted Shelly until their faces touched, until the soft glow from Vee’s face illuminated Shelly’s features. Shelly squirmed, squealed, kicked the air, but Vee wasn’t letting go so easily. Goob, still stunned, watched the ordeal in horror. “Listen here ammonite,” Vee hissed, the poor fossil dangling helplessly in her grip, “You don’t know who you’re playing with, do you?” “A-A monster…?” Shelly croaked back, still feebly kicking and grabbing Vee’s arm. Goob finally broke, thrusting his arms forward and tugging Shelly into his embrace with a rather loud grunt. Vee stumbled backwards, catching herself mid fall, glaring daggers that never met Goob’s gaze. Shelly rubbed the front of her neck and winced, while Goob cradled her like a baby and its mother. Vee, on the other hand, went silent once again, clearing away the three items, sat on their fancy pillows, bid a quick and hasty farewell, pulled a lever and disappeared down into the elevator gap once again. Sprout, who had been watching from the sidelines, had grabbed Shelly by the shoulders and spun her around. Shelly was already sick of being grabbed as if she was some stupid ragdoll. The pair immediately broke down into bickering, yelling, screaming, pulling on each other's ‘hair’ (well, only Sprout’s) until eventually Goob had to once again intervene. “Fighting won’t help!” the craft pouted, “we need to stay friends! Fighting leads to an unhappy time!” Sprout and Shelly shot each other a final look before the elevator doors finally creaked open, to reveal yet another desolate warehouse map, and within the instant, was plunged into darkness. Shelly wasted very little time sprinting out, Goob, Sprout and Scraps following closely behind, while the other 4 Toons hesitated, before tiptoeing outside. Shelly immediately booked it to a goldmine of machines in the far end, Scraps grappling over beside her with a strike of her exceptionally long tail cup, and parked herself next to Shelly.
[continued] “Honestly,” Scraps began, turning the imposing red valve, “I’ve been wanting to punch Vee for a while now… if only I wasn’t just paper,” she chuckled, glancing at Shelly’s bandaged knuckle. Shelly just laughed bitterly, avoiding Scraps’s eye contact. Shelly never liked direct eye contact, and was already overwhelmed by the constant grabbing. At least she finally got the punch she had always wanted to inflict. The other Toons looked desperate for something to happen to Vee. Shelly was simply responding. Scraps quickly realised Shelly wasn’t in a talking mood, ears flopped down her head, and extracted silently. Goob had already found the Twisteds, a mixture of commons and his own twisted self. An easy combo for a speedy Toon. Probably. Shelly could see Sprout grabbing Tapes off the floor out of the corner of her eye. One more floor and they could finally rest. One more floor. The rest of the Toons were able to blitz through the machines fairly quickly, and before anyone realised, they were already rushing back to the elevator within 10 minutes. Goob trailed behind, last of them all, panting from the effort, sitting by the wall. Scraps joined her brother and wrapped her tail around his waist. “To the top we return!” The pair cheered, Goob’s long and shaky hand pressing the top button as the elevator groaned and rose upwards once more. Sprout was staring into nothingness, Goob had fallen asleep on Scrap’s shoulder, and Shelly? She sat down cross legged, watching the elevator door. Was Vee going to be waiting for her? No, that would be stupid. Vee doesn’t waste her time with grudges anymore. Anymore… Why did Vee change? Before the humans left, she was actually happy. Energetic. Now she’s just… different. Angry. Desperate. … <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> art: @kitebyte_ song: the ghost - niviro previous / first: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1392737093 woah shelly punched vee!1!1! i hope vee doesn’t do anything plot relevant to shelly in the future!
