When utilizing the "Viva Piñata Bases" setup on Scratch, following proper extraction and structural guidelines ensures your Original Characters (OCs) remain consistent, easy to edit, and visually coherent across all projects. ### Step 1: Backpacking the Assets To ensure you have all the necessary components for full customization, do not isolate the main body file. You must backpack both core sprites: * **The Main "Viva Piñata Base" Sprite:** Contains the core body shapes, limbs, heads, and base rotation angles. * **The "Accessories for Piñatas" Sprite:** Contains modular additions such as ears, tails, horns, paper frills, hats, and expressive attachments. Having both sprites in your Scratch backpack allows you to easily drag-and-drop vector parts between costumes without losing vector grouping or alignment settings. --- ### Step 2: Modifying Costumes and Referencing Examples If you need inspiration or technical reference for how vector shapes, line thicknesses, and paper-textured shading combine: * Open the **"Example Characters"** sprite inside the project editor. * Browse through its costume library to inspect how familiar Scratchers and random pop-culture characters were translated into the Viva Piñata art style. * Use the **Reshape Tool (A)** on vector mode to study how vector nodes were manipulated to create the characteristic "paper-craft" edges. --- ### Step 3: Torso Reshaping for Clothing Safety When designing clothing (such as shirts, jackets, or pants) over the base body, avoid simply placing clothes on top of a fully drawn torso layer. Leaving a complete base body underneath creates a risk where users can open the project in the editor, delete or move the clothing vector layer, and reveal underlying base details. **To implement proper torso reshaping:** 1. Select the torso layer using the **Reshape Tool**. 2. Erase or delete vector points covering areas that will be obscured by clothing (such as the chest or waist). 3. Adjust the vector nodes so the torso graphic only exists where it is visibly exposed—such as around collarbones, neckholes, sleeve openings, or leg hems. 4. Merge or align the visible torso edges directly with the clothing borders. By cropping the underlying body graphics, the clothing and body become structurally interdependent, preventing any unwanted exposure or tampering within the Scratch vector editor.
