The VANSOC is the democratically elected ruling party of the Socialist Republic of Vangasena. Established in 1950, it rose to power following the 1965 Elections. The titular leader of the VANSOC is the Dayalu Pitra, who, according to official Vangasenian records, rose to power in 1965, beating his rival, the Apmanit Viyakthi, by a landslide. The Dayalu Pitra is often portrayed as an all-seeing, all-knowing, yet all-loving ruler who constantly makes efforts to protect the people of Vangasena from the outside bandits, thwart the attempts at chaos committed by the Apmanit Viyakthi, and ultimately usher in a new technological era for Vangasena. VANSOC is split between four Departments for administrative purposes, these being the Department of Security (Depsec), which handles the wartime effort against the outside bandits and the Apmanit Viyakthi; the Department of Prosperity (Depros), which handles rationing in crises, such as the health situation and the Zarfan attacks; the Department of Verity (Depver), which handles news, literature, and the fine arts; and the Department of Care (Depcare), which handles the Cureluv Centres to treat individuals affected by doubleplusungood conditions and helps correct thoughtcrime through compassion and second chances. VANSOC holds elections in Vangasena every two years, with the Dayalu Pitra winning by a considerable margin. Notable contestants include the Dusra and the Kulmata. The Dusra is consistently at the lower end of the scale, receiving only 1–2% of the electorate's support. Meanwhile, the Kulmata and Dayalu Pitra are on the higher end, though Dayalu Pitra has been elected for 34 out of 35 total terms (the Kulmata was elected for the 1985–1987 term).
