ingredients: 1 cup all purpose flour (I used bread flour) 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch 1/4 tsp salt 1/3 cup HOT water (not from the tap! you can boil the water or use an automatic kettle) Instructions -Whisk the dry ingredients together. -Add the boiling hot water and mix. (DO NOT use the whisk! It’ll be a pain to clean. Instead, use a wooden spoon, or any other mixing ingredient.) -If the dough looks too dry/if there’s still some flour in it, add some more water (eg. 1/2-1 tablespoon at a time). If it’s too wet, add some flour. -Once it’s the right consistency, dump the dough onto your working surface. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes: — Push it down with the palm of your hand, fold it over, and repeat. -Once you’re done with that, roll the dough into thin strips. -Cut the strips into 2 inch pieces. -Bring your water to a boil. (A FULL. BOIL. If you don’t, your tteobokkii will become gooey mush at the bottom of the pot lol) -Once at a full boil (NRRRRRGHHHH >:[), put your dough strips in and wait until they float to the top. (If they’re stuck at the bottom, stir gently with any utensil. A gentle one.) -Once they’re floating, drain the water and IMMEDIATELY put it into an ice bath. This is crucial. -Stir them around in the ice bath (It’s okay to use your hands if they’re clean), and drain the ice water. -In your pot (don’t put the dough yet), add the following: —2 tbsp ketchup —1 tbsp soy sauce —1 tbsp sugar (honey works too) —a pinch of garlic powder —2-3 tbsp water —as much hot sauce or cayenne pepper as you please (optional, I didn’t put any lol) -Turn your heat on to medium heat and wait for your sauce to bubble. -Add your tteok and make sure they’re coated. The sauce will thicken the more you cook it. -Once done, turn the heat off and pour into a bowl. -Serve and have a nice meal. when I first tried this I was skeptical but it turned out really good :D recommended
