(I wanted to post this, also the ending might not be the best but I'm really proud of this story, the picture unrelated to everything XD) A small being of light awoke in the darkness of a never ending void. They blink their small eyes in confusion. They couldn’t see anything. Slowly they step forward, feeling the grainy yet smooth texture of what they were walking on. What is this place? Walking forward certainly wasn’t for someone who easily got bored. All they could do was move forward. Their thoughts aren’t that interesting either, consisting of the same few questions: Where am I? Who am I? Why is it so dark? They wander and wander throughout the cold dark world, finding nothing but sand and the ruins of old used buildings. Nothing at all was interesting. There was no one else like them, there were no objects that could possibly be of any use to the being of light. For hours on end the little being of light would wander straight into the unknown—creating small sounds as their only source of entertainment. Small sounds, small chirps, as if they were a bird, calling out for someone that would never arrive. …Ding…Ding… The being of light looks around, their face scrunching up in confusion, something was calling out to them. They peer through the window of a nearby structure. They just had to figure out where that sound was coming from, there has to be others just like them! “Hello?” a voice calls out. The being of light jumps up from their spot, turning to look at the creature behind them. “Who are you?” they ask, tilting their head. “I don’t know. Want to be friends?” the other asks. “But I don’t know you,” they reply. “Are we supposed to?” the other asks, tilting their head. “No.” They jump up to the being of light and grabs their hand, “Now come on!” As soon as the two touch, their bodies radiate a warm, bright glow. They illuminated as brightly as a star in the sky. The smaller one looks at the taller one curiously. The being in front of them was glowing; they too were a being of light, yet they glowed brightly, unlike them. “You glow!” the taller one says, if they could smile theirs would be the largest. “No, you glow!” the smaller one shouts. “I glow? No, I don’t glow. You glow!” “I don’t glow—” DING! DING! DING! “What was that?” The taller one asks, they look around, nothing was any different. “That wasn’t you?” “No.” The taller one replies, “come on! We have to follow it!” Their grip on the smaller ones hand tightens. They jump down and drag the other along with them. “Hey!” They shout. ` “What? It’s calling for us! We have to go!” “Okay…” The two follow the sound throughout the endless darkness of the world; the two shine brightly, becoming each other's only source of light within the small world. Their tiny hands slotted together easily, as if they’d done this thousands of life times before. A bell-like sound would go off again and again, leading the two throughout ruins and up a steep hill. “This is weird. Where are we?” “I don’t know,” nothing could be seen, everything around them was pitch black. As black as the void. “We have to keep going, we wouldn’t get called here otherwise.” The taller states. The shorter looked around curiously, searching for something that could tell them where they were. Where are we? Who is this? Where are they taking me? DING! DING! DING! “It’s louder.” The taller one mumbles, they drag the shorter forward, unknowingly through large open doors. BANG! Both doors slam shut behind them, it left the two confused, the smaller one fearful. “Eek! What was that?!” “I don’t know, but we have to keep going!” “We have to?” the smaller trembles, tightening their grip on the taller ones hand, their face scrunches up. “Yes! Come on! We’ve done this before!” “What?” if the smaller one could frown they would’ve been, “we don’t know each other.” “We don’t.” DING! DING! DING! Both beings of light wander the building they’re in until they reach a large bell, glowing, the size of . There was no one here besides the two of them. “Is this what made the sound?” the smaller asks. “I think so.” the taller pushes the bell with all of their weight, making it ring a tune.
DING! DING! DING! SWOOSHHHHHH! A gust of wind passes through the building, the two hold onto each other for stability, “Is this right?” the shorter asks. SWOOSHHHHHHHH! Suddenly, out of nowhere a monster-like creature appears. It was glowing just like them, yet looked nothing like them. It had a boney white face with two antlers sticking out of its head, its eye sockets were black and empty. “Hello my children,” its voice was loud yet soft, and echoed through the room. “Eek! Who are you!?” the shorter yelps. “Ah, do not be afraid, I simply have a request for the both of you,” “A request? We’ll surely do it!” the taller one replies, they don’t allow for the shorter to protest despite all of their worries. “But–” “Yes, now let me explain. You both have to bring this candle to the top of the mountain behind this temple.” “Why a candle?” the shorter being of light asks. The taller being of light stays silent, letting the shorter do all the talking. “This candle is very important, with both your bond and the candle you two will bring light upon this world,” it steps forward, bringing the glowing candle closer to the two beings of light, letting them take a look, “I will wait for the two of you atop the mountain, let the wind guide you and save this land from the darkness that has spread.” SWOOSHHHHHHH! “Come on, we have to go. We have to bring light to the world!” “But why? What’s so terrible about the dark?” the smaller being of light asks, there was no response from the taller being of light. Why is the dark so bad? The wind picks up again, this time stronger than before, strong enough to pick up the two beings of light and strong enough to carry them both out an old broken window. “Don’t be scared little Stardust, we’ll be just fine, let the wind take us to where we belong.” “Stardust? You gave me a name?” the shorter being of light was confused. “Why wouldn’t I?” “Then I’ll call you Shine, because you glow.” “So do you,” Shine replies. Both Shine and Stardust glide through the sky, the wind acting as a current guiding them up to the top of the mountain. Their journey was slow and long, they could see nothing but the faint glow of the creature waiting for them on the mountain. SWOOSHHHHHH! A faint glow of the creature was atop the mountain. It was holding the candle securely in its hooves, right next to it was a stone pillar with a hole right in its middle, “Thank you for coming, now please, take the candle and place it down.” “But, why are we doing this? Why can’t the world stay dark?” Stardust asks. No one answers. Why won’t anyone answer my questions? Shine lets go of Stardust’s hand and grabs the candle from the creature. They hand it to Stardust, making sure they held it carefully. “Come on Stardust, bring light to the world,” Shine replies, they seem more cheerful than before. Stardust hesitantly nods and steps towards the stone pillar. Slowly they lower their hands and carefully place the candle right in the middle. As soon as it was placed the world changed. Everything changed. The world was no longer dark, stars twinkle in the sky, flora grew through the white sand, and what was once ruins build themselves up, as if they were never destroyed and broken in the first place. The whole world changed. Shine takes Stardust’s hand again and drags them over to a certain spot. Once they did, both of their bodies start to fade, as if they were turning into dust. “Thank you Stardust, this was a most enjoyable journey, may your next one be just as wonderful!” Shine says, if they could smile, they’d have the largest one on their face. Two brand new stars shimmer in the sky, close together, as if they were holding hands. The creature waves to the sky, and once again darkness falls over it, for the next two beings of light to fall and once again become stars.
