. Book: unnamed though I’ll often refer it as Of Earth and Aether ✦ Topic: Lore ✦ Subject: Sorin Everblaze (I changed the spelling of his name) <::::::::::::::::}==+ .✦. +=={::::::::::::::::> Haven’t made a post actually about my ocs is a moment, so here’s one after I did the 23rds OCtober and Inktober combined (prompts were “dapper” and “with a weapon”. Now, pretty much everyone loves the sunshine character in media, right? That lovable golden retriever with a heart of gold and a smile to brighten your day. Yeah, one of my favorite archetypes if I’m being honest. Well what if that sunshine character was a little morally screwed. What if he didn’t realize it either? What if he just thought what he was doing could make a difference for the good. What if he was terrified, stressed, and human sometimes? Yeah that’s Sorin :3 - golden cat (not retriever) - lawful nuetral alignment - accidental manipulator - poor decision making - inspired by the characters Rose Quartz (SU), Ezran (TDP), White Lily Cookie (CRK), and Hummer1578 (TSFtL) Sorin is a good person… to an extent. He intends all good, but is mostly set on his own goal of fulfilling his fate and will do anything (and I mean anything) to achieve it. Heck, he even accidentally caused one of his friends to— well it turned out fine though, right? He’s a dreamboat! Ladies man, charming, respectful, emotional, and king. It’s really difficult to notice the flaws. Until you catch onto the subtext of his language. Saying things that seem kind, but just a bit overly possessive. Understand? It started becoming more noticeable once he sentenced one of his friend’s fathers to death. It was valid! He had committed a high level of treason to the royal family and tried to kill Sorin himself. He couldn’t sleep that entire night thinking about the finality he had chosen. What was the last thing the traitor, Mortimer, would say before he died? “My grave will remain silent forever, my visions for this kingdom unheard of for all eternity. A shame you could never have heard them, young king. You would have entirely agreed.” Sorin would remember it. Especially after it echoed in his head again four years later after the passing of his own father. Stressed, frightened, and low on sleep, Sodin sought a solution. Ghost summoning. He hired a necromancer. An illegal trade. A terrible decision he would find later. Just to speak to the traitor once more. Then to speak to his great grandfather. Then, the necromancer cheated him on the third, refusing to summon King Arder, father of Sorin. Sorin attempts the dark art himself and achieves nothing, leaving himself exhausted and pained from the magic. All actions have consequences. If only he’d learnt that then. But he is still the sunshine. Always smiling, always there… just too bright. It’s all a facade once he’s older. He used to be bright, but that sunshine has burnt out. He’s tired. Only one thing left to keep him going. Fate. He must fulfill it. … I think I got a little bit carried away, but pretty much Saurin is, yes, the sunshine. At least he is for the first book and beginning of the second :)
Art by moi (it features him officiating the execution of Mortimer, but that’s not what the scene looks like! I just wanted to draw it like that)
