Today, I decided to head out to the barn to exercise Buddy. I haltered him and brought him to the wash bay, where I picked his hooves and gave him a quick brush, thought he wasn’t very dirty as he was in his stall. I tacked him up and headed to the outdoor arena. We warmed up quickly, and Buddy was very excited, and so was I tbh, so I decided to head into the course. We started on the center crossrail-vertical hybrid, making sure to have nice square turns in and out of the jump, he was a little crooked on the back side, but I managed to correct it with my outside leg. We continued all the way around, to come on the same jump the other way. He did cut the turn a little more than I was expecting, but he still ended up jumping the jump nicely, though we did have a small chip. He seemed to have understood the first time, and stayed straight on the back side this time. Next, we headed into the blue 1 stride combo. He was a little speedy on the in, and if you mess up one tiny thing in a combo, you’re de3d, so I made sure to collect his stride a bit, and he jumped beautifully despite giving lots of space on the in. We continued onto the bending line to finish, and since the in vertical was off a very short turn, I made sure to keep him out on the rail until I anticipated the turn. He did end up taking the long, despite my attempt to make him jump shorter, but he continued cruising onto the oxer, and jumped that one magnificently. I stayed out on the back side, then brought him back to a trot, walk, and then dismounted after walking and trotting for about 5 mins. I gave Buddy his well earned treat, and untacked him, before bringing him to his pasture. I made him his feed bowl, brought it to him in the pasture, and then left him to eat in peace. <3 I’m over the moon with how Buddy did, and so happy to have had the opportunity to work for Hoof Prints.
