Soooooo. The Scratching Dawn Remake. I've got a lot on my mind about it. Gameplay wise, this series was pretty impressive. Having frame-by-frame animation, voice acting, music, and choose-your-own-adventure style mechanics made playing it interesting, so props to the dev for a job well done! It couldn't have been easy! Now for the story. I thought it was alright. It felt like a short fun experience to pass time with when you're bored. I may have joked that I was pissed Pico became the primary antagonist, but I think he fits the role very well. Everyone's characterizations are vastly different from how I usually see the Scratch mascots, so it was a lot of fun seeing all their personalities mesh together. Tera and Nano's petty rivalry was hilarious, the hug shared between Giga and Scratch in the ending was so sweet, and Gobo's obvious crush on Pico was heartwarming to watch (even if the PicoCat shipper in me was crying out in agony). I felt lukewarm about the main plot itself because of how simple it was, but I don't think it's a detriment to the game at all. The simplicity of it, as well as the open ending, leaves a lot of room for fans to take the story and branch it off into new directions. All in all, Scratching Dawn is a neat little game that clearly has a lot of heart and soul put into it. I can definetly see why it has a fan base (much deserved btw). It's amazing the things this community can do with blank slate mascots! Random thoughts/notes: -I hate Tera so much in this game. She is a massive jerk to literally everyone (which is a good thing btw). I let her die in every single one of my runs lol -I accidentally killed Scratch in my first run of episode 3 because I was too busy writing down my thoughts on the game in a seperate document. Oops -Pico throwing Gobo through the window made me laugh like a maniac. It was just so unexpected -Nano's death in the lake was when I realized that Pico died after falling off the ski lift. RIP to my son <\3 -I want to shove Tera into a box and ship her to Switzerland -Scratch is so cute. Shame he goes to prison in his solo survivor endings :( -The implied Nano/Tera in the good ending had me raising an eyebrow. I'm probably just overthinking what Nano said though
