☆~ ßα∁кऽт○୮y~☆ The rain fell hard, wetting the soil. Coal stared at his son in horror, his pelt spiking in fear “Shade, son… how could you do this? You were such a small, sweet pup when I saw you last, and now you’re about to kill your sister?!” Coal’s voice cracked with pain. “Time has brought me strength, Father, and the wisdom to see how, if I stayed, you would’ve kept me in the den, never letting me reach the true extent of my power.” Shade’s dark gray pelt was black and glossy in the heavy precipitation. “No Shade, you’re wrong.” The black wolf shifted his dark amber gaze to his pup. “I love you Shade, please come home!” “You don’t understand Father… I mean… Coal, this is my home now. With Bear, with Lightning, with my son Stone. The pack never trusted me Coal, and they do.” “What do you mean?” Coal’s eyes glimmered in despair. “I heard Atom tell Star here,” Shade gestured to the bloodied silver wolf at his paws with a snarl of disgust. “to keep an eye on me… Star, my own sister, agreed!” The dark wolf’s eyes flared in hatred and pain. His mouth foamed with spit from his savage rant. Coal didn’t retort. His jaws parted briefly, quickly snapped closed. “And now, Coal, it’s time for you to die.” Shade leapt forward and bit down on Coal’s throat in one swift movement. Coal gasped for air but refused to fight back. He only tried to push him back. Shade bit down on his father’s paw. Dark, warm blood dripped from the gash. Coal shook himself free and, scrambling away, tripped into a rock. Coal’s vision darkened. His mind spun. Pain gnawed at his shoulder. He looked up. Through rain-mist, he saw Shade advancing on him, his bloodstained fangs glinting in the sparse sunlight. Dizzy, tired, and breathing hard, Coal tried to spit out a few flames, but only managed a few sparks. “Give up you useless wormbag, you’re time is--” In a flash, a silvery-white blur shoved Shade down, snarling with rage. The two wolves tumbled in the mud, snapping at each other’s ears and exchanging magic-attacks. After countless heartbeats of savage barking, the silver wolf was tossed aside. “Mother? Err- River? What are you doing here?” River’s gaze was hard and unwavering. “It’s time to stop, son.” She stood up. “Never!” Shade leaped atop of River and sunk his fangs into her scruff. River splashed him with a torrent of water, that was quickly countered by a blast of a strange energy. The silver she-wolf shot across the battlefield. “River! Nooo!” Coal howled in pain and fear. He released a burst of flame to Shade’s pelt and watched his son scamper off to heal. Coal loped up to his mate, horror and tears flooding his gaze. “River?” He croaked. “Are… Are you okay?” “Coal?” River coughed. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” “Why are you asking me that? You’re the one who collapsed in the middle of battle!” Coal barked with worry. “Mom?” Star padded up to her mother cautiously. River smiled weakly. “Hey Starshine.” She licked her daughter’s muzzle. And returned her stare to Coal. “Coal… I don’t think…” Coal’s tail tucked and his ears shifted backwards. “Don’t think what?” “I don’t think I can make it back to the densite.” Silence poured over the three wolves. I was as hard as the rain. Coal pressed his muzzle against River’s side. “Please. Come home with me one last time.” “I cannot. I don’t have the strength left in me.” River licked Coal’s ear. Coal’s eyes widened. “No… no no no no no, you HAVE to, please, River, please!” Coal rasped. River’s eyes dimmed and she smiled faintly. “I love you Coal. I love you Star… I’ll see you again soon.” River’s body went limp, a smile still pasted on her muzzle. “River?” A single tear snaked down Coal’s cheek. “River… I-I’ll never forget you my love…” He licked her nose. “I will find you again… In one world, or another.”
