A little background information on Star Trek stardates: There are many ways of calculating stardate. This version is one of two ways of calculating stardate according to The Next Generation (all you Trekkies will know what I'm talking about). It is one of the simpler ways. The other TNG stardate calculator results in a negative number if you use a year less than 2323, so I don't really like it. You can't calculate according to The Original Series (although I wish you could) because the creators just chose random numbers, and as long as the number was greater that last episode's number, they were happy.
