The early stages of slipknot go all the way back to 1991 in Paul Grey's basement. Although the band did not assemble under the name "Slipknot", Anders doesn't recall that they had fully settled on a name yet, But Shawn wrote the name "Painface" on one of the rehearsal tapes. the original lineup had a very aggressive feel, mostly from Anders Colsefni's powerful death metal influenced vocals and Patrick's heavy guitar tone. The tapes made before MFKR had a 'hardcore punk' influence, which can be heard in the basement session tape compilation. During this early period the songs "Slipknot", "Gently", "Idiot", "What's Wrong", and "Wise up" were recorded. Unfortunately in 93' Shawn got too busy to continue and the band was put on hold. The next year, the band did get together to make a few recordings, but it was only for a short time. In 95' The band got back together again and started doing live shows, in various bars around the area and went on to make MFKR the following year. First Tape Track list: 1. Slipknot 2. Gently 3.
