DISCLAIMER: I did not use paint or speed for this rendering. I have decided that I will start a studio for these when I have shared ten of them. We're 9/10ths of the way there!
Quid volo ego evello Chow posset! I am back with yet another speedpaint, this one being of the mighty Mr. Spook halfway through his gunk'l'dunk harvesting ceremony. Mr. Spook is just one of the amazing characters found in Larry Marder's Beanworld, a series of graphic novels with the subtitle, "A Most Peculiar Comic Book Experience." If there is any way that you can get your hands on one of these books, I suggest you do so. To me, reading Beanworld is like coming home after a long vacation. Its folksy feel makes me feel cozy and welcome, like I'm experiencing a fairy tale. I want nothing more than to be a Chow Pluk'r, floating effortlessly through The Four Realities on my Goof-Off Days. So far, I have only drawn speedpaints of characters and scenes that mean something to me and that I want others to glean the same meaningfulness from. Beanworld is most definitely no exception. On a less serious note, I have some notes about the actual project. The intro was extremely fun to make. It was supposed to be me as a Hoi-Polloi getting attacked by the Spear-Fling'n-Flank'rs (I made sure to have the correct number of spears) and then being stabbed with Mr. Spook's trusty fork and then being hit with a Sprout-Butt. I spent longer on that animation than I did on the actual speedpaint! :) This speedpaint was easier than I thought it would be to translate onto Scratch, especially the gunk'l'dunk. However, the title took a long time to get right, probably because it was part of one of my favorite lines of Beanworld, "Hoka-Hoka-Gunk'l'dunk! Hoka-Hoka-Hey!" In the actual novel, Mr. Spook wouldn't have one residue-cleaning tool (I don't know what their proper name is) with a hunk of fully pickled gunk'l'dunk and one tool without any, but I love the design of the aforementioned tools so much, I decided to draw it that way. The music is King Kong Kitchie by Dan Zanes & Friends Featuring The Wonderland String Band ; I chose it because it has the folksy feel that I associate with reading Beanworld. I'm sorry that the reference picture(s) are grainy; they're just photographs of panels in the first Beanworld book: Wahoolazuma! This is my to-do list for future speedpaints. Again, I'd love for you to give me suggestions in the comments.
