This idea came to me one evening. I thought, "How can I make a game with 3-D top-down buildings, similar to Thunder Blade?" I knew that some buildings in the game looked segmented, like different layers, each layer moving slower than the one above it. Then the idea struck me! I could code the different layers of the building to move like background assets in a side-scroller! So, I whipped this together and... Ta-da!
