Slender The Slender Man was born in 2009 at the hands of Eric Knudsen on the Something Awful site, in a photo contest where we had to retouch the photos by adding macabre details or mysterious entities. [2] [4] In pictures prepared by Knudsen, Slender Man appeared together with children in a playground. The pictures were sepia and a brief caption. The character impressed the jury and Knudsen won the competition. The Slender Man was a huge success and became the protagonist of numerous creepypasta (horror stories mostly created on the internet) and numerous fan art works devoted to it, which gave birth to a real fandom. In an interview published on the Know Your Meme site, Knudsen stated that he was inspired by popular legends such as Black Man, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, Zack Parsons, and Stephen King (in particular, The Foggy novel), and books Of the surrealist writer William Seward Burroughs II. [2] [5] The first true spread of the character took place on Youtube: the "MarbleHornets" channel produced a series of fictional documentary films in which boys, with the aid of an amateur camera, resumed mysterious events for a school competition During filming, The beam was spotted several times and the boys were persecuted. In these videos, the entity is called The Operator and acts together with two Proxies, nicknamed Masky and Hoody because they wear respectively A mask and a hood, blindly obeying the operator and keeping their identities hidden. The webserie was a huge success so much that it was extracted from a cinematic adaptation. [6] Behavior [edit | Edit wikitesto] The Slender Man usually tries to kidnap children from 6 to 12 years of age, although it is not uncommon to target small children or adults. It is often found in forests or abandoned and obscure places, but sightings have also been reported in inhabited areas. Once he has chosen his prey, he can follow her up to the city or home or even persecute him in the head of the world, making it visible only to her and to the people beside her. Usually, his appearances take place gradually: at first he only appears in the distance or gives clues to his presence, but over time his appearances become more and more frequent and closer to the prey. The Slender Man's victims go into paranoia and begin to have even hallucinations and maladies, except for children who sometimes behave in a friendly way toward him, thus facilitating the capture. Adultery prey, once targeted by this creature, can not get rid of its presence or escaping from it. This often leads victims to choose suicide (considered the only way to avoid being caught). The bodies of the victims are rarely found, completely disrupted. Suicide corpses are normally found intact.
