As you may know, I am fond of redesigning flags - whether country, state, or city - so I've embarked on a likely ill-fated quest to redesign each state flag! Here's Alabama's, which harks back to its old days of using a French fleur-de-lis, combined with the modern red-on-white saltire.
Taking a cue from Ed Mitchell's flag redesign, these flags will keep to the colours of red, white, and blue. They also share a blue bar with a white star in the middle to the left of the flag, a theme taken from 99% Invisible's excellent animated episode about flags. Credit where credit is due: I nabbed the base saltire, the fleur-de-lis, and the star from Wikimedia.
