On May 16th, the NBA will conduct a draft lottery in order to determine the order by which the non-playoff NBA teams will select amateur players. 1000 four-digit combinations are progressively assigned among the 14 non-playoff teams. The worst teams receive the most combinations while the best teams receive fewer. The top 3 picks are chosen randomly, while the remaining 11 are in the reverse order of the remaining teams' records. (That is, the team with the best record in this group will have the 14th pick, while the team with the worst record in this group will have the 4th pick) Every team will be assigned ONE pick, so the team chosen to have the first draft pick will not be eligible for any other picks. Write a program that will simulate the NBA Draft lottery. Create any variables or methods you feel necessary to make this program work.
The 2017 NBA Draft Lottery will be held on May 16th. 1000 combinations that can potentially be selected to be one of the top 3 picks are allocated to the 14 non-playoff NBA teams. The Top 3 picks are randomly selected, and the remaining 11 picks are ordered in descending order of the number of combinations each team had. Once a team is selected, it has no chance of receiving another pick. The Lakers were given 156 of the 1000 combinations. The Lakers must be selected for one of the Top 3 picks or it will lose the rights to its draft pick. Calculate the probability that the Lakers will be selected for one of the Top 3 draft picks.
