*sigh* I never realized how much I've missed Scratch.mit.edu. For a while I thought I was too old to Scratch. I was on DeviantArt, Tumblr, Reddit, websites like that: why would I need Scratch anymore? Well the truth is, Scratch was my first exposure to a real online community. I was ten when I first joined Scratch, and I visited it everyday and grew obsessed with it. It's about three years later, and I'm thirteen years old. I've grown apart from Scratch. I would visit it occasionally to reply to an internet friend, but that's about it. I grew too attached to DeviantArt, Tumblr, and Reddit. DeviantArt, Tumblr, and Reddit are great sites. But the thing is, they are part of the internet without much moderation. People can be jerks and no one would care. People could harass others and the website wouldn't care. Overall, they can be and will be very toxic communities. I started missing Scratch's great community. Nice people, friendly environment, talented creators, and a great program/site. So now I'm back. I missed Scratch so much. I still love this site, and I still want to animate on this site because I love it and the community of it so much. I love all of you and this site and I'm not leaving anytime soon. I'm glad to be back.
I love drawing Lapis Lazuli way too much...she isn't even my favorite...I think she's third or fourth on my favorites list. But her design is amazing. ABOUT THE ART: You won't believe how proud I am of this! With the exception of the mouth being a bit too far to the right, I think everything was going in my favor! The digital pastels were blending nicely, I feel like I was able to handle the complex hair-shading, and I am in love with the lineart! I wanted to do something to make this drawing a bit more original, so I decided to use actual Lapis Lazuli colors (the real-life stone) to color her. I actually really like the colors I picked, I think it really adds to the atmosphere. I also really like the golden freckles I put on her. I kinda wish her real character design had freckles, to be honest.. PINKY'S RAMBLING: So, here's how this drawing came to be: It was midnight on a Friday...er, Saturday. My laptop was taken away for reasons I don't think I have to mention here. So I decided to take out the iPad and start sketching something. I ended up drawing a head, and then got the idea to redraw this screenshot since I rewatched Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem earlier that day. So I put the screenshot as reference, and then started sketching it out. My IRL friend was on Discord and long story short, he started doing his own redraw too. So we spent most of the night just sharing our progress images with each other. He went to bed before I did. I decided to go to bed shortly afterwards. I finished up this pic the next night, and I was so excited that I shared it on my Tumblr as quickly as possible. I shared it on DeviantArt. Then a few months later, I decided to share it here, on Scratch. ANYWAY, I hope this artwork is actually as good as I think it is. I'm personally really proud of it, even though her mouth is drawn a bit too far to the right. --Pinky102368.
