Setting: Crisis City (5 years after previous story) *Carter has made continuous efforts to search for the mysterious artifact* Carter: Come on, where is it? If I come back empty handed, I don't know if I can forgive myself! *Then, his sensor array perks up, leading him to an abandoned crumbling building* Carter: Found it! *Hands transform into diggers, then scoops up dirt until he hits something metal* OW! Man, Mobian nervous systems really bring a lot at you. *He reaches down, converting his shovels back into hands, and grabs the strange device* Carter: FINALLY!!! Five years later, and now I find the Energy Phaser! My master's gonna be pleased with my progress! Soon, he will rule take over the entire universe and be the ultimate champion! *As he walks out of the building, small lava creatures pounce at him, to which he swing around and flings them backward* Carter: Oh, not again!!!! *Changes arm into a machete and slices two of them in half, but one jumps on him* *Meanwhile* Mephiles: *Watching them with his giant computer* I look forward to seeing you again, Carter Lion. *Meanwhile* Carter: *Struggling to get the beast off of him* Get off me, you piece a--! *Suddenly drops the Energy Phaser and it rolls into a lava pit* *The beast tries to bite him, but is met with a stab to the chest, obliterating it* Carter: Great, now where is, *Here's splash and runs over to lava pit* Oh, no. *Sees Energy Phaser melt in the lava* @%#&$! *A static sound is made in his audio receptors, and a metallics alien dialect is heard* So, I see you have failed me, Lionheart. Carter: *speaks in same dialect* Please, forgive me, master, you must understand that I-- ???: Report back to the ship to be melted down. Carter: B-but my lord, I-- ???: Now. Carter: *Stares into the horizon, thinking about his decision* No, master. ???: WHAT?! Carter: I'm not gonna be melted down to scrap metal for the likes of you. *Stands up* In fact, I'M DEFECTING. ???: I SHALL NOT LET YOU DEFECT TO THE WEAKER CAUSE! Carter: Think again, hot shot! Even if it is weak, it is noble and pure! *Disconnects communication link* ???: YOU SHALL PAY FOR THIS, YOU LIT---! *Disconnects* (Press space) Carter: Adios, freak. *As he stares into the horizon, his optics change from red to blue, confirming his defection to the noble cause*
