This staircase piano was made by Marianne and Laurie. The Scratch portion is fairly straightforward. The "piano" was created by attaching copper conductive tape to both the right and left sides of each "key" - the key being a piece of cardboard. The cardboard was attached to the handrail using zip ties. We used phone wire to extend the distance of where the keys could be placed on the railing. All of the white wires are attached to one ground alligator clip, and each key is attached to a different alligator clip, one per note. To extend the octave or add other beats we could add another computer and another MaKey MaKey. NEXT TIME we might place both sets of conductive tape in the center of the keys rather than at the left and right edges. And it would be fun to try placing the keys on the steps.
