~ CREATURES ~ Vaihata, as most know, is stocked full of incredible beasts big and small, wondrous wildlife beyond the imaginable. Not only is the fauna around the island's citizens astounding, but the citizens themselves carry blood of these creatures. ~ The Wind Spear ~ The wind spear is a beast of legend, and only those with the strongest wind-rounded powers claim that they have seen the mighty spear. Legends say that this dragon-like creature is over 200 feet long from snout to tail and weighs more than five of Vaihata's largest dragons combined. The beast has a long, sharp snout that gives it the name of a spear. It is said to always be in the air and never come to land, however it has no wings and the Spear is a spiritual being that can fly at will without any appendages to support his flight. His body shape is similar to that of a giant serpent, creating a lack of arms or legs. Legend also states that no professional beast hunter has ever gone after it, for it has impenetrable scales and could consume a Vaihatian whole. ~ Mistral Phoenix ~ Mistral phoenixes are much different than those who live as civilized Vaihatians within the kingdoms. These phoenixes are made of Dewdrops and, of course, Mist, rather than flames. Mistral Phoenixes are extremely gentle creatures, and dwell at the edge of ponds and inside caves. These birds are often restricted from being kept as pets in most areas due to their rarity and extremely delicate bodies, however with some reasoning with the kingdom's ruler, you do have a small chance of being able to care for one in captivity. It is said to be a very good omen if rain comes down upon your home with a Mistral Phoenix around, and that the rain of the phoenix will give whoever it touches good luck. ~ Wendigos ~ Wendigos have been a large piece of folklore for years, even some Vaihatians claiming that they existed as legends outside of their world. Wendigos are terrifying, massive beasts that can walk on either all fours or two legs. It's head is made of a damaged deer skull, in which enormous antlers grow out of. The beast's arms are long and furry, with blade-like claws on both hands and feet. It's tail is very similar to that of a rat's, long enough to be used to constrict unsuspecting prey, and with it's ribcage is exposed, it makes for quite the horrifying sight. Wendigos can range anywhere from ten to thirty feet tall, and find home in the very depths of miner's caves where it is too deep and dark too see. Their diet consists on almost anything they can get their hands on, as long as it has enough meat to satisfy the beast. Wendigos have been known to be loners, some saying because when the beasts had once lived in packs, they began to eat each other if they hadn't claimed a meal within the day. ~ Hijas ~ Given the nickname 'Jinxes', Hijas are debatably the most sneaky and dishonest creatures to live on the island. Their bodies are about half the size (or smaller) than the average dragon, and their color schemes are generally different shades of purple. They are extremely slim, their arms and waist almost as thin as sticks. Their facial appearence and 'slime' that drips from their mouths is quite similar to that of the acid panther in the short film 'Fire tiger Vs. Acid Panther' Created by http://tasteslikeanya.deviantart.com/ , for comparison. Hijas find home wherever they please and find fit for their mood, as they are nomads, moving from one location to the next in a constant cycle. Along the way, they are often snatching up valuable gold and treasures from marketplaces and vaults. ~ The Bestiary is updated often! Come back soon to find more unique creatures! ~
