Song: Radioactive instrumental (String quartet) One of the main things I want to address about Warriors are how the cats are named. At the beginning of DOTC, all of the cats were named with two words (Grey Wing, Clear Sky, etc.) I would have had nothing wrong with this, however the Erins really do like inconsistencies in their writing. For example, since there is a cat named Tall Shadow who has black fur, you'd think the other cats would somehow be named after their appearances. Although that's partly true for most of the cats, others like Falling Feather and Fluttering Bird don't make sense. Feather and Bird are both very general terms, and the colors of feathers and birds can range drastically. My second point is that even if they were named after appearances, and say that Fluttering Bird and Falling feather turned into something like Fluttering Thrush and Falling Snow, why would they need the terms Fluttering and Falling? This goes for all of the cats. Some may argue that it highlights a specific trait, but that doesn't make sense either since the kits get their two part name when they're born. You may also argue that Fluttering Bird was named for how she made very little movement, and it was as if she was "fluttering." However, all kittens make little movement, and they don't have distinct personalities. If Fluttering was added to Fluttering Bird's name because she was so fragile, wouldn't that be cruel? All her life, Fluttering Bird would have to carry a name that states that she is/was the most fragile kit to appear in the tribe. So as to create some kind of order, and save something for the creation of the clans, I decided to shorten the names into one part ones, like rouges and loners. The difference here is that a cat is named after their fur color. There are absolutely no exceptions to this (Although if a cat gains a notable injury such as a twisted foot, the other cats may give him a nickname of "Twisted Foot"). For example, the cat I drew on the left has black and white fur. Moss wouldn't work since moss is green, and this cat has black and white fur. Thunder wouldn't work since thunder is a sound and is therefor invisible, so other invisible things like Wind and Breeze are out too. However, Patch could work since this cat is bicoloured, and that's what Patch indicates. Warbler, Plover (birds,) and Sheep could work, since they all can be black and white like the cat. However, this is where it gets tricky. Since the tribe is now located in north america, not all of the prefixes that could be used in the UK work in North America. For example, Dipper would have been an excellent name for this cat, since it is black and white (Dipper as in the bird, not the Gravity Falls character.) I can't use it though, since the white-throated dipper that I want to name this cat after only lives in the UK. Thus I've compiled a list of basic names to use. It isn't exactly complete yet though, so I can't post it yet. Since I like the name Plover most of all, I decided to name the cat Plover, because the bird Plover is black and white, and the cat is Black and white (This is not a character in the rewrite, although there might be a cat renamed Plover later on) As for the suffixes, or the other part of the names, that will come in later. Although I'm making my own naming system, the traditional style of warrior cat naming (not canon, it's fan made, you can find info on ailuronymy on tumblr, if your allowed to go on tumblr) will give you a basic idea of what I plan for the future.
