Space! || My Riding Progress || || + Why I Left My Old Stables ||
Hello everyone! Here is a project for the SEG theme this week on my riding progress. I couldn't go into loads of detail - it's been seven years - so this is just a general overlook of what I have achieved. During my time, I have learnt the first three gaits, sitting trot and the meaning of dressage, as well as the theory and practical side of it. I have also included a bit of information on why I chose to leave the stables that Precious was at, since I realize that I didn't really give a proper reason for it. Basically, I did not feel relaxed or happy at the stables. The staff members constantly judged and felt like they had a right to say how long I should ride (I cannot ride for 1 hour all the time because I have other responsibilities too). The staff members actually caused an argument with my dad and had the audacity to say it to me as well. Not to mention, the instructor they had was not a people-person and did not make me feel confident in my own riding ability. She shouted and kept telling me to put my heels down to the point where it hurt. Alongside that, I don't agree with the instructor's training methods. I generally struggle with self-confidence and I look for instructors that are invested in my riding - not my money. I loved the horses dearly. Precious most of all. I had great memories with Precious, but when it comes to my own riding career, I want to be somewhere that makes me feel wanted and encourages me in my riding. People who want to see me progress. I moved stables and the new place offers me that, and I'm much happier. Point is, your own happiness and confidence is much more important than sticking with an instructor/trainer who is not invested in seeing you flourish. If that means having to move stables, then do was is right for you. It only took me three stables and seven years to find the place I feel most happy at. I wouldn't change that journey though; I've learnt so much. Do what is right for you and your situation. Stay wonderful and keep on riding :) Ivy xx
