it's one in the morning and i just coded this project all by myself, i'm really proud tbh so this is the first time I've done anything like this, but I doubt it'll be the last click on the pictures to switch to the next one! also, down in the notes and credits, there's an explanation/description to go with each picture. hope you enjoy! i'll be doing more stuff soon :D
If you don't know who Oliver Boulanger/Olivier Polanski is, he's a character from the 2000s TV show, Beyblade. Oliver is one of my favorite characters, so I figured that I would draw a screenshot of him from one of the episodes he's in. It was supposed to be something simple, and then it kinda just de/evolved into this, but hey, at least I can make a project out of it. Picture 1 - This was just my first sketch of the screenshot. I actually like it a lot better than the finished product. Go figure. I'll explain why I like this one better than the others in later pictures - it'll make more sense then. Picture 2 - My original plan was to draw the screenshot, but color it using only shades and tints of one color - in this case, blue. I didn't end up doing that, but I just thought this looked cool. So, there's that. Picture 3 - This is where things started to fall through. Not much changed from the sketch to the lineart, other than his eyes - which is my biggest problem with how this turned out. Oliver is not supposed to be a completely likeable character - he's a rich kid from France who looks down on people that don't have the same level of skill as he does in Beyblading. In that sense, he knows his place, and knows other people's places in relation to him. He is supposed to be snooty, to some degree, but that's not his entire character. My problem with the lineart here is that he looks wayyy too snooty than he actually is. In fact, he has this odd eccentricity (though not as much as another character he's introduced with) too him - kinda like a misunderstood artist? Either way, he has an unusual charm, and I feel like when tracing the sketch to get the finished lineart, I lost the charm along the way. This is why I liked the sketch much more than the lineart. Picture 4: Flat colors. If you look up in the corner, you can see the picture I was referencing. Nothing much else to say here. Picture 5: One of the reasons I decided to draw Oliver was because I wanted to try out a new shading method. Here it is, in all its glory. I'm not super thrilled with how it turned out, but I still like it. My digital style is still a work in progress. Picture 6: I took away the flat colors and just left the shading and the lineart. It looks cool! That's why it's here. :D If you really did read all that, I appreciate it. It's nice to know that people take the time to read things that took you more than 5 minutes to type out. Have a nice day! <3
