Press the right or left arrow to toggle the color slightly, press the up or down arrow to toggle the size slightly. Press the keys "a" or "d" to toggle the color greatly and press the keys "w" or "s" to toggle the size greatly. Click the clear button to clear up the canvas, and that little square in the top right hand corner shows what color the pen currently is.
