Arrow keys to control your frebe. Space to spawn a companion. Click on a companion to delete it. So far there is no objective to the game. Just swim around and have fun. Each companion has its own set of randomly generated attributes that affect not only how quickly it turns and swims, but how close behind you it will follow. Technically these frebes are not a flock, herd, or school, since their movements are not coordinated with one another. Their tendency to follow the leader is better described as shoaling. I'm working on improving the scripts so they will behave as a group and not just greedy individuals. Currently, if you get close enough to a companion, it will orient itself in the direction you are pointing in order to be prepared to start swimming when you do.
Planned updates: Improved behavior (see the note about shoaling in the instructions) Behavioral cuteness Scrolling Obstacles Food items to collect Predators that eat companions Music and sounds ------------------------------------ 25.02 UPDATE -- Added some more individual variation of companions (mostly cosmetic--size and a bit of coloration). 17.02 UPDATE -- The critters are now called frebes (pronounced freebs) since they resemble grebes but can stay underwater indefinitely like fish. 16.02 LAUNCH -- All programming by me. All graphics made by me with the Scratch vector editor. The creatures in this game are inspired by a variety of aquatic and marine birds, most notably grebes and auklets. I created this game in order to develop scripts that would allow sprites to follow a leader without simply pointing towards the leader and moving.
