Gravity Falls is based off his own childhood, just as you may have suspected. Even Gruncle Stan is based off Alex’s own uncle! It became quite obvious from the interviews I read, eventually I stopped reading them all together because they were all pretty much the same thing. But before I move on, I’ll list the things I observed. Alex seems to like to pretend that Gravity Falls is real, he does this on twitter and each time he’s talking to fans. However, in the interviews he is completely serious about where all the inspirations came from. I was correct about the fact that Gravity Falls was based off his own childhood, but not in the way you’d expect. He stated that he and his twin Ariel travelled a lot, and were frequently ‘bored out of their brains’. As a result, they started to imagine what their lives would be like if magic was real. Alex stated that at one point, he was on a really long road trip and he passed by a sign that read ‘Boring, Oregon’. He reminisced being enchanted by the prospect of a town named Boring, and often left it to his childhood, overactive imagination to picture what the town would be like- the exact opposite of what its name suggested. Years later, this would become the basis of Gravity Falls. You must be wondering why I’m including all this background information. It’s crucial to what I will explain next, I promise. For now, please don’t be disappointed with what you’ve read so far. Some of the more hardcore readers would have already considered this statement: What was Alex’s inspiration for creating something as different from mainstream Disney TV shows as Gravity Falls? It’s a little… different to the rest of the Disney shows out there, don’t you think? I hate to disappoint all you readers, but I know where the concepts for that came from as well. There is another show, ‘Eerie, Indiana’ that ran when Alex was still a child. I’ve watched the first two episodes before when I was doing research. The themes are so similar, Eerie, Indiana is technically the live action version of Gravity Falls! A pair of kids running around a haunted town with a weird name, trying to figure out what was going on behind all the supernatural occurrences. Alex claimed to be a huge fan of the show in an interview, saying that it was the main inspiration behind quite a lot of the concepts within Gravity Falls. I can see why. At one point during the interview, he even stated facts about Gravity Falls that were never revealed in the show. He said that Dipper and Mabel kept something from their adventures every time something went berserkers, similar to how Marshall Teller and Simon Holmes were building their ‘Eerie’s museum of Weird’. Apparently, this never got to be placed within the cartoon because the producers thought it made the show longer. I’ve convinced myself that Gravity Falls never happened in real life. Sure, there are fan girls who may not be so willing to admit to this, but that still doesn’t explain that final mystery that was left behind… what was that ghost child doing in Bill Cipher’s photo? I have to give credit to for pointing out that strange cat like creature that appears to be watching out of the shadows. His project is here, if you want to see it. First ghost children, now mysterious black cats. Great. What next? Part 7 is going to be released on Halloween. See you soon, my loyal readers… .
