Well, here's my entry for the ocean cat! Name: Kai (Hawaiian for "sea") Personality: Calm, adventurous, quiet, smart, kind, trustworthy Weaknesses: Too quiet, not determined enough, never very enthusiastic Backstory: Kai's parents hated water. Before she was born, Kai's mother was walking along the beach during a nice sunset. She wasn't paying attention to the water. A huge wave came and dragged her under. Her left back leg got stuck in a tangle of kelp and crab. Her once perfect, sandy colored pelt with amber markings that matched purple eyes was now ruined from the toe to thigh of her left back leg. Kai's father had got it even worse. His tail had been bitten by a fish. But when Lilian, Kai's mother, had found out that she would soon have a litter of kittens, there was a hurricane. Lillian and Mirr, Kai's white-and-grey speckled father with blue eyes and no tail, hid in a cave. A week later the winds, rain, and hail retreated and a grey-blue sky remained. Lillian was hardly able to eat with the pain. But Mirr didn't know what to do, so he had to take her to the nearest kitten nursery. All had been blown apart from the hurricane, other than one under the ocean. They got there in a couple of days. While there were still many cats to help Lillian, the two were terrified. Part of the rock that kept the shelter had broken, and water was inside. Only a couple inches high, but it was water. And, although it was soon patched up, the parents hated water more than any other cats they knew. One night, the pain was so bad that Lillian was crying out. She was given a stick to chew on. Then, as she had her kits- four of them -the rock behind her broke. Again. It poured over the first three, leaving them soaked. As the fourth came, the water slowed, and the fourth kitten curled up happily in the calm water and slept. Lillian and Mirr were crying. Only the fourth had survived. They hated the place. Hated it so much, that the two even hated their water-loving kitten. Lillian and Mirr refused to name her. The first three had died. When the kitten was old enough to meow, they dumped her in the sea. A colony of fish saved her, and, although they couldn't directly speak to her, eventually, the water cat and the fish understood the other. The nameless cat was perfectly happy and lived with the fish for seven moons, when a shark came and ate her friends. It saw her and swam away, frightened. She was, again, homeless. The cat dragged herself to shore. She hadn't been on shore for seven moons. That night, as she was about to go to sleep, she heard the cry of another cat. A week later, the two young cats were best friends. His name was Bubbles, which she thought was funny, but he pleaded with her to call him Current. She agreed. But, most importantly, he gave her a name. Kai, meaning sea. Current was there because he was lost from his family. A year later, they found Current's family. Current's mother gasped when she saw Kai. She knew Kai's parents. Of course, Kai didn't know the story. And when she visited her parents, they forced her to leave. Current's family allowed her in, and she learned about cat living. She was still kind to her parents if she ever passed them, and tears always came to their eyes. But she was never, ever given anything back, until after Kai and Current had kittens. Kai learned that Lillian and Mirr had died, and they left their home for Kai and her family. In the note, they said that they were sorry, but they couldn't live with her and the guilt of leaving their daughter. They said that they loved her. And Kai, after her horrible encounters with her parents, still loved them back. Credits // Background found off google (wh00PS) for design and DTA Petit Biscuit for music ("Ocean")
