[Set in 1955] The sky was filled with a deep orange as the sun set over the expansive grassy fields. 22 year old Linda Brown was driving an old 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air on the 2 lane highway to meet her grandparents for the 1st time. Her mom, Beth, was out buying food at the nearest store, 14 miles away, when a reckless driver had hit her car into the fields and killed her about 2 weeks ago. Her dad on the other hand, had abandoned them when Linda was only 3 months old. Beth had only mentioned him once and told Linda never to talk about it again. Her dad’s parents were the only family left in state so that was her only option. She hadn’t heard much about them except for the fact that they owned a diner. It was nearing 5:00 and she still had about 50 miles to go. Suddenly, her car sputtered to a stop. Oh no, she thought. She had to think of a plan. Fast. She looked around. She saw large fields that went on forever and some abandoned barns. Then, she saw a house. It was a 1 story house with a beige coating and a nicely trimmed lawn. Okay, she thought, I’ll ask whoever lives there for help. She pushed her car several feet into the driveway. As she approached the driveway, a strange sense washed over her.
