In German, Belgian, Austrian and Dutch Carnival tradition, the Funkenmariechen, also known as Tanzmariechen, is a woman or girl who dresses in a uniform and performs special dances as part of celebrations. The uniforms are either red or blue and are inspired by 18th century military uniforms.
