Jonathan Kahl --Q3 Sovereignty: Agriculture-- *City: Leopard **Leopard is the only city in Leopardland that is located near a large source of water (Tonlé Sap) *Size of farm: 8 acres **Amount of the Tonlé Sap easily accessible from Leopard *Type of agriculture: Intensive subsistence, rice dominant **Lack of machinery in Leopardland **Availability of much land and water *Crops: Rice, Morning Glory | “Livestock”: Fish (Including Amok) **The climate and overall environment around the Tonlé Sap is perfect for fish, rice, and Morning Glories **Farm will not be subsidized by the government because there is currently no possibility of true overproduction of crops *Crop Transportation: semi-trucks “Livestock” Transportation: smallish refrigerated semi-trucks **Trucks can simply follow roads out of Leopard and through to other cities/towns *Target Consumers: Leopardland **Subsistence (wanting food, not money) *Potential Problems **Fish with tapeworms and other parasites ***Consumed fish could pass on their parasites to humans ***This problem could be fixed with extra checking of fish for parasites. This would be a simple fix for this minor problem **Transportation ***Trucks are expensive and require a multitude of parts to be built ***This problem could be fixed by encouragement of mining of specific parts that could be used to build these trucks. This could work because miners in Leopardland would jump at the chance to make more profit off of truck resources while at the same time helping their country. *Von Thunen’s Model: 1st Ring **Leopard is built right next to the Tonlé Sap (The main market is located in Leopard) **There is an error in this; Von Thunen made an assumption that there was only one market per region. There are many markets in Leopardland *Amount of country’s economy that is based on agriculture: 37% **The people of Leopardland, for the most part, work in the mines or in the fields. About 58% of Cambodia’s economy is based on mining, while about 5% is based on other things such as services.
