Blackmailing his stepbrother (Tony's father) Dr.Brenner unfused Tony with the blood. The results were Tony having superhuman strength and sight into the Upside Down. It came with its pros though allowing her to be able to hear partially (she was deaf before this all happened). But Tony didn't know how to control her powers leading to her and her family (mom, dad, and two older brothers) to move from North Dakota to California. Once there, her eldest brother fought for custody of her and her other brother Derick. He won and they lived in Cali for a few months before moving to Hawkins; where she met Dustin and soon Mike and Will. {Update} Dr. Owens has helped Tony be 'normal' or so they all think... dun dun dun
