Press [space] to shoot apples at the flying hippos. Use your mouse to aim. Make sure that the hippos don't touch you! Something terrible will happen. The hippos will fly faster every 20 points, starting at 20. Every 30-60 seconds there would be a hippo rush. It's when hippos spawn faster, apples go faster and hippos go faster.
